Mokum Berlin 10.04.09
Hellcity Punks are a band from Helsinki who not only published their first EP, but also had their first little tour out of Finland. That's a good reason to have a little conversation with two of the guys after their last gig in Berlin.
Welcome to Berlin. How are you doing?
Dennis: Now , very fine. Sweaty but fine.
This is your first tour ouside of Finland. How did it come to this mini-tour?
D: It started with the Austrian Punks, I mean the streetteams. They wanted to see us and they were coming to Finland around Chrismas time.
They asked us whether we had any shows. But we hadn’t. So they said that we had to come to Austria. And we said okay. But we didn’t know how to tour and they said that they would help us out and stuff like that.So they organized the whole thing.
What are your impressions of Germany? Have you been here before?
What are you thinking about this country?
D: Loving it. Loving the food.
So what is your favorite food?
D:I don’t know what you say to it. It’s kind of Schnitzel with mushrooms and stuff.
I think you mean Jägerschnitzel
D: Maybe yeah. But no Wiener Schnitzel. Very good.
Did you have any time left to see a bit of Berlin?
D: Do we havetime? (looks at Hooligan)
D: Not realy. A lot of to do.
Do you have a favorite place in Helsinki?
D: Home. But if you talk about a bar...the Losebar But now it changed. It used to be a small pub. Pretty like a living room. I enjoyed it but now it changed. It’s quite huge .
Is there something what left a special impression on you during this tour?
H: We were spending three days in Wolfen.
Is the city of your supportband, right?
H: Yes and they were pretty wild.
D: Pretty wild, yeah. Three days of it’s too much for these guys. It’s crazy. So next tour every show go, go,go
So let’s talk about your music. Which kind of things influence your music?
H: Mostly the 80’s. Bands like Mötley Crüe. Or from the 70’s
D: It depends on the guys.
So, every guy has his favorite century?
D: Yeah. But we all agree with bands like KISS and Mötley Crüe.
How does your songwriting work?
H: Me and Jnaze write something on our own.And then we go to my garage and do the songs pretty much ready. Then we call the other guys and do a rehearsal to finish the songs.
About which topic would you never write a song?
H: That’s an easy answer. There is but I don’t know.
When did you start making music? Was there a special moment which caused you to make music?
H: I rember one moment when I was 14. I was sitting in my room and I thought about what could I be when I grow up.And I watch at my walls and there were these bandstuff.
And there it hit me.
Do you remember your first record which you bought?
D:Hmm...Do you remeber? (looking at Hooligan)
D: Then start.
H: It was a finish band called “Yötä”.
D: First record I bought myself was AC/DC.
Do you have a favorite songline?
H: I have so many...
D: I think a KISS- song. 100.000 Euros
I’m just about ohhhh yeahhh... (All laughing)
That’s just perfect.
H: I’m gonna to choose Mötley Crües “ Save our souls”.
It starts: Black angels laughing in the city streets
Street toys scream in pain and clench their teeth.
Who will be your favorite duettpartner?
H: Destiny Child
D: Ohh yeahh that’s great (All laughing)
Is there a pace where you would like to play a concert?
D: Maybe for me personal. I don’t talk about all of us guys. L.A.
H: I was thinking about “Whiskey”.
D: Yeah me too. (laughing) There’s a legend. Play in “Whiskey” and I can die. Doesn’t matter. (laughing)
Do you have any rituals befor going on stage?
H: Warming up with the guitar.
D: Basicly try to havea few minutes to relax. And I watch the opening acts. Just some couple of songs and then I have to go, sit down and than okay.Go through the songs in my mind.
If you have the chance to meet yourself as an old man or as a young boy, which of them would you choose?
And what would you ask him?
D: I would choose the old man and would ask: Was it worth it?
Is there anything what you want to tell to your fans?
D: To the fans who were at our gigs: Thank you very much!
Hope to see you soon. We definitly come back. Just keep in touch. See ya!
Thank you guys for this great conversation.
